We were recently invited to the Agri-Tech Innovation Unlocked Conference which was held on the 25th March at the KingsGate Conference Centre, Peterborough. The conference was organised by the Adapt Low Carbon Group and was designed for businesses to unlock their potential and growth through agricultural innovation. The Agri-Tech sector is where agriculture meets technology and science. It is one of the worlds fastest growing markets and contributes an estimated £96 billion to the UK economy.
Agri-Tech Innovation Unlocked Conference
The Agri-Tech 'Innovation Unlocked' Conference gives businesses who work within the sector a chance to find out about new technologies, products and investment opportunities to help make their business grow. The conference was a great opportunity for Coda Plastics to gain beneficial information and meet other businesses. Agri-Tech Innovation Unlocked Conference offered such things as:
- Innovation solutions to address industry challenges in agriculture and food manufacturing
- Exhibition of companies, research and technology organisations developing products, materials, and technologies for Agri-Tech and bio-tech sectors
- Expert industry speakers who provided the latest developments in the Agri and bio-tech sectors as well as giving practical examples of innovation
- Direct access to Adapt's network of research and technology organisations, innovators and potential customers
Aponic
One of the businesses that were showcasing their products was Aponic, a company which has re-invented the way we grow commercial and domestic fruit, vegetables and flowers. Aponic have made a vertical recycling hydroponic system that is space efficient, water efficient and requires very little to function.
Aponic's grow tubes can be attached to a sunny outside wall, arranged in poly-tunnels on frames, installed in atriums or used in indoor growing projects. Due to them being vertical, they leave a small footprint so the consumer can make a small growing space efficient and abundant. There is no digging or weeding required, which attracts both avid and non-gardeners. From a commercial point of view, this means that there are no soil based pests as well as labour and capital machinery being massively reduced.
Their product idea is really simple: the main ingredients are a growing tube, a drainage cup, some growing media and a pump. The growing tubes are supplied with everything the consumer needs, including a fixing frame to keep everything at waist height to allow easy harvesting and tending of the plants. This can be wall mounted or floor standing and holds the tubes and growing media, return manifold and pipework.
We are happy to announce that we'll be manufacturing Aponic's Vertical Growing System in the near future, so watch this space! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Agri-Tech conference last week and have come back to the factory with fresh ideas and useful knowledge about the agricultural market. Please find below a series of photos from the conference, including Aponic's stand showcasing their products.
